Skeet Man – Jan Sychra (CZE) shot gold and tied the world record.
Czech’s Jan Sychra won the last final of the 2009 ISSF World Cup in all events in Munich, the Skeet Men competition. The Czech athlete tied the current world record 125 hits out of 125 targets, and claimed Gold at the final round.
Jan SYCHRA of Czech Republic equalled the current world record of 125 targets set in 2007 by USA’s Vincent Hancock. The 40-year old Czech athlete is the second shooter to equal the record, following Norway’s Tore BROVOLD who was the first to tie it while competing at the 2008 European Championships in Nicosia.
Sychra walked into the final round with two targets of advantage on his followers, and only missed one target winning Gold with a total score of 149 hits (125+24). The Czech shooter lost the chance to tie the Final World Record of 150 hits by dropping a precious target on the fourth station, the turning point of today’s final round.
Italy’s Valerio LUCHINI and Cyprus’ Georgios ACHILLEOS shot-off for Silver. The two shooters had started the final round tied with 123 hits, and both of them shot a perfect final of 25 hits.
The reigning World Champion Achilleos won the shoot-off 2 to 1, winning Silver with a total score of 148+2 hits. Luchini closed in third place, grabbing Bronze with 148+1 hits.
The Olympic Silver medallist Tore BROVOLD, 38, missed twice on station 4, dropping in the scoreboard. He closed the final round in fourth place, with 146 hits (123+23). He was followed by the 2006 World Champion Andrei INESHIN, 42, from Estonia, who closed in fifth with 145 hits.
Norway’s second finalist, Heral JENSEN, 42, missed four determinant target between station four and station five, finishing his match in sixth place with a total score of 144 (23+21) targets.
The People’s Republic of China secured its fourth Gold medal thank to HE Zhaohui, 19-year old, who won the 50m Rifle 3 Positions final beating “his idol” Mathew Emmons of the USA.
2004 Olympic Champion Kostevich of Ukraine came back on an ISSF podium after missing since 3 years. The Ukrainian shooter fought right the end against China’s Tong, who placed in second eight tenths behind her.
The Chinese Skeet shooter Wei Ning tied the world record of 74 targets at today’s Skeet Women event, winning her first gold medal of the season. Wei’s final score of 98 targets turned out to be only one target shy of tying the final world record.
Beijing’s Olympic Champion JIN Jong Oh claimed gold at today’s 10m Air Pistol men event, coming back on the podium a few weeks after his successes at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon. Jin was close followed by his teammate LEE Daemyung, who secured Silver. Belarus Jury DAUHAPOLAU closed the final in third winning Bronze.
