LOCOG officially stated its position on the topic by addressing a message to the ISSF last Friday.

Shooting tickets will be available to a range of groups – schools, BOA/BPA and Tickets for Troops – in the frame of the London 2012 Ticketshare programme, LOCOG confirmed.

“We are aware that a recent article in the London Evening Standard’s report on shooting tickets and their availability for schoolchildren has given rise to concern from within the shooting family. The newspaper published an article suggesting that the London 2012 Ticketshare programme would not offer shooting tickets to schoolchildren in London.

LOCOG reiterates and makes quite clear that it has no issues with children attending the Olympic and Paralympic shooting events. This is demonstrated by the fact that we offered discounts for children attending many of the shooting sessions, and actively promoted this in our ticketing guide.”

LOCOG’s position remains;

– Shooting tickets are included in the Ticketshare programme

-       The Ticketshare programme includes a range of groups – schools, BOA/BPA and Tickets for Troops;

-       There are a small number of shooting tickets in the Ticketshare programme, and we plan to issue tickets where the demand is greatest;

-       Our initial consultation with schools suggests that there isn’t a great demand for shooting tickets;

-       However, if schools request shooting tickets, we will provide them, subject to availability;

Where the article was misleading was that it noted that we had excluded schools from applying for shooting tickets. This is certainly not the case and if schools request shooting tickets, we will of course provide them, availability permitting.

We are absolutely clear that children are allowed into the shooting venue at Games time – indeed, shooting is one of our Pay Your Age sports, and we have sold tickets to children and will continue to do so dependent upon availability.” LOCOG communicated to the ISSF.

When the Games open on 27 July 2012, London will become the first city to host three editions of the modern Olympic Games. It will be a very special homecoming – far different from London’s previous Olympic experiences in 1908 and 1948.

The 2012 Olympic Games will kick off on the 27th of July, for 19 days of Olympic games events, including two days of early football competition before the 27July Opening Ceremony, and 12 days of Paralympic Games events.

More then 200 National Olympic Committee and about 10500 athletes are expected to participate in the world largest sport festival. Athletes from all around the world will meet to compete in 26 sports, comprising 302 medal events, in 34 different competition venues. Approximately 21,000 media and broadcasters will deliver the Games to a global audience, while more then 8 millions of tickets were made available for spectators.

The 15 Olympic shooting events will take place at the Royal Artillery Barracks – RAB – venue from the 28 of July through the 6 of August 2012 on a temporary venue. The location in the river area was highly supported by the ISSF President Olegario Vazquez Raña, as it will maximize the presence of spectators, and will turn in favour of the shooters. Located in the Woolwich area, in the so-called River Side, East London, the shooting venue will indeed be placed in the heart of the 2012 Games, just 20 minutes far from the Olympic village, and relatively close to other sport venues.

The 10 and 50m Rifle and Pistol competition hall, the 25-meter and the Final halls, are being constructed with innovative techniques, and for the first time the 10m and the 50m halls where combined in one single venue, in order to rationalize the construction costs.

The Shotgun range will provide three combined layouts for Trap, Skeet and Double Trap events, and an innovative 26-meter high green net will be placed 80 meters far from the shooting posts, creating an amphitheatre background.

The Olympic Qualification path is undergoing, with 390 Olympic Quota Places to be awarded. The 2010 ISSF World Championship in Munich, and the 2011 ISSF World Cup Series, have already assigned most of the available Quotas. Now, with one year to go the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Games, the last Quotas are being distributed at Continental Championships around the world and at the next ISSF Shotgun World Championship kicking-off in Belgrade on the 3rd of September.

With 1185 days to go, Nanjing has proudly unveiled their rockin’ emblem for the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014.

The 2014 Youth Olympic Games logo has been finally unveiled!

Launched with a grand ceremony, broadcast live on national television to audiences across China, the emblem is bursting with colour and energy in celebration of you – the youth of today.

The clever design also commemorates Nanjing’s rich history by incorporating the famous City Gate in the wording. By using each letter ‘n’ to symbolize an open gate, the emblem conveys a warm ‘welcome’ message, encouraging all future athletes, spectators and audiences from around the world to come together to share in the excitement of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing.

Speaking at the grand launch event, President Jacques Rogge said: “This colourful and contemporary logo is the perfect symbol for Nanjing and China as a whole. It represents your passion for sport and culture, and the welcoming City Gates symbolise the warmth and friendliness of the Nanjing people.”

He continued: “It also represents the energy of the city and the nation, and it is this vibrancy that will inspire young people around the world to join in the celebrations in 2014.”

On the 10th of February 2010, the 122nd IOC session at Vancouver announced Nanjing as the host city of the second summer YOG, which will be held from August 16th to 28th 2014. The Nanjing 2014 Summer YOG will encompass all 26 sports – including shooting – and will be conducted under the motto “Olympics for the young, by the young.”
