The world cup will take place between the 17th through the 24th of April, and will be conducted on the lines of the Olympic shooting range of Beijing.
Some of the 375 participants (coming from 44 nations) moved here from the first world cup stage that was closed yesterday in Changwon, Korea. Some of them will shoot their first world competition of the year here in Beijing, where the matches are announced to be tough: the more we are getting into the season, the more top shooters from all around the world get into their best conditions.
China won the medal standings of the first World Cup Stage in Changwon, leading the competition with a consistent margin on the Russian Federation that followed in second.
The Chinese team is called to repeat that great performance in front of its spectators, but the home-court pressure could trick the local shooters as has happened before. The first final round, the 10m Air Rifle Men match, will take place tomorrow.
The ISSF Technical Delegate, Mr. David PARISH, welcomed the shooter at the opening ceremony speaking in behalf of the ISSF President Mr. Olegario Vazquez Raña and of the Secretary General Horst Schreiber. “We have to highlight the excellent job of our friends of the Chinese Shooting Association, of the volunteers and of our juries” said Mr. Parish.
Mr. LI Feng , the Asian Shooting Confederation Secretary General, also welcomed the participants at the competition, speaking in behalf of the ASC President H. E: Sheikh Salman Al Sabah “The best shooters of the world are competing here one against the other – said Mr. LI – Please, compete with fair play and mutual understanding!”
The opening ceremony continued with a traditional show performed by the athletes of the Sport University of Beijing, sponsored by the organizing committee.
The first final match, the 10m Air Rifle Men event, will take place tomorrow at 14.15.
