USA’s Beyerle claimed 50m Rifle 3 Position Gold

Shooting on the lines of her home range, the 26-year old finalist climbed from the fourth to the first place at the last shot, to secure her second World Cup Gold of the season.

The 2011 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Fort Benning continued today with the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women Final.

 

It was USA’s Jamie Beyerle who finished on the highest step of the podium, winning the Gold medal with a total score of 583.2 points after a breathtaking final match.

 

Entering the final round in fourth place, with a qualification score of 585 points – 3 points behind the qualification’s leader –the 26-year old American shooter climbed up the scoreboard by marking 98.2 points in the final, stepping in the lead with a great 10.8 last shot.

 

“It feels great to win on the lines of my home range!” Beyerle said right after the final match. “When I looked at the monitor, after the last shot, I was kind of surprised. It was a nice surprise, though!”

 

Beyerle, ranked first in the world in this even, had won Gold also at the last ISSF World Cup Stage in Sydney. “I will compete also in Munich, in the next world cup stage!” She added.

 

Annik Marguet, the 29-year old Swiss shooter who had led the qualification rounds with 588 points, ended up 0.5 far from the medals. The Swiss athlete, ranked sixth in the world, fired two frustrating last shots of 7.9 and 8.9 points, landing in fourth place with a total score of 682.5 points.

 

The Silver medal went to Germany’s Eva Friedel, who ended up in second place with an overall score of 683.1 points. Entering the medal match in second place with 587 qualification points, the 25-year old German shooter marked 96.1 points throughout the ten-shot final to end up with her first ISSF World Cup medal.

 

The winner of the last world cup stage in Changonw, China’s Li Peijing, 21, followed in third place securing the Bronze medal with a total score of 683.0 (586+97.0) points.

 

The two Olympic Quota Places to be assigned today went to Ukraine’s Dariya Sharipova, who climbed from the eighth to the fifth place finishing with a total score of 682.3 (583+99.3) points, and to Serbia’s Andrea Arsovic, sixth with 680.1 (584+96.1) points.
